We take our shoulder muscles for granted as we go about our day to day activities. The group of tendons present in our shoulder joint that provides us support is called Rotator Cuff.

If an injury occurs, it may lead to tendon tear, also known as rotator cuff tear. Many people who are above 40 complain of shoulder pain. One of the most common cause is the rotator cuff tear.

What causes Rotator Cuff Tear?

Any severe or constant pressure caused on the rotator cuff may result in a tear, if proper precautions are not taken. People playing regular sports or those involved in over head activities have seen majority of rotator cuff tear. 

What are the Symptoms?

The most common symptoms associated with rotator cuff tear are pain and limitation in abduction. Night pain is characteristic feature of rotator cuff tear.It is also associated with severe pain and loss of strength in that arm.

 Rotator Cuff Tear is diagnosed based on history and physical examination . It must be noted here that a Rotator cuff tear is best diagnosed by MRI scan.

  1. Rest your arm in arm sling immediately after injury.
  2. Analgesic,Anti inflammatory drugs and Cold Pacs will help to reduce pain.
  3. The treatment is based on the type of tear and the other medical conditions like Diabetes, Hypertension.

What is Rotator Cuff Surgery?

Rotor cuff surgery is based on the type of tear. Mainly it is Arthroscopic surgery in which the torn tendon is sutured and anchored to the freshened bone using Suture Anchors. Post surgery rehabilitation is equally important to follow to have better results.
